Successful voyage is not limited to safe ice navigation only, but also; to make sure vessels arrive in condition to load or discharge cargo without delays due to freezing spray or other obstacles related to the vessel operation in cold weather conditions.
It is a combined effort of the Master, Ice Advisor and shore based Ice Operator to successfully execute the voyage:
- Prior assignment of an Ice Advisor, Ice Operator will evaluate customer needs and will communicate with the vessel/Customer to provide latest ice conditions and operational recommendations.
- Vessel/Customer will receive our Ice Navigation Guidelines prior entry into ice-infested waters.
- Vessel/Customer will receive daily, latest ice charts, ice forecast and marine weather forecast for the intended route.
- When deemed necessary Master/Customer can contact Ice Operator 24 hours per day to seek assistance/advise.
- When Ice Advisor boards the vessel, he will together with the Master/vessel staff inspect the vessel to make sure she is fully prepared for the passage in the Ice and to deal with the extreme cold weather conditions.
- During passage in Ice, Ice Advisor will act as a servant to the Owner/Master and will assist in safe navigation in ice-infested waters.
